Rudolph Way Commemoration Ceremony
Monday, April 16, 2018
5:30 - 7:00 pm

Celebrate Paul Rudolph and his iconic masterpiece - Sarasota High School! This special event celebrates the completed restoration project that preserved a significant section of the Paul Rudolph-designed canopy walkway, naming it "Paul Rudolph Way."

The Commemoration Ceremony, hosted by SAF, will take place on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 5:30 PM at Paul Rudolph Way at Sarasota High School, preceding a reception at Ringling College of Art + Design’s The Works building (formerly known as VisionWorks, 891 South Tamiami Trail).

The canopy walkway is located south of the Sarasota High football stadium and west of Building 4. SAF funded the additional renovation costs, estimated to be $34,000. Renovations took place as part of the final phase of the SHS campus renovations. A plaque was installed on one of the canopy pillars, designating the architectural significance of the canopy walkway. The renovation consisted of approximately 235 linear feet of the geometrically complex concrete structure, including removal of pipes and conduits, patching, waterproofing and painting. Sections of the canopy were taken down in 2015 and 2016 to facilitate renovations of both the Sarasota Museum of Art (SMOA) building and the Rudolph-designed gymnasium. The design and construction team includes Harvard Jolly Architecture, Tandem Construction and Paul Pitcher, project manager for the school district.
