Overview - Florida Required Advanced Code Course (YKK AP)

The focus of the first half of this course is to understand changes affecting vertical wall components and cladding in the New Florida Building Code. This course will help anyone involved avoid the pitfalls and make a smooth transition. The second portion of this course breaks down requirements for commercial entrances to meet requirements of the 2014 Florida Building Code - Accessibility.

Learning Objectives – enable students to:

- Understand the changes in Occupancy Classifications and Risk Categories as they relate to the 3 Wind Speed maps.

- Distinguish changes in Wind Borne Debris opening protection requirements in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) and select the appropriate level of missile protection.

- Embrace recent developments in “safe school design”.

- Determine the appropriate compliance path for meeting the new Energy Conservation Code.

- Identify doors on an Accessible Route that must meet ADA requirements.

- Distinguish low profile thresholds from ADA thresholds and recognize proper uses.

- Provide clear width openings that meet all ADA requirements.

- Utilize opening force definition and distinguish from latch retraction, or the force to start the door in motion.
