Architecture For Animals

4951 Lorraine Road, Bradenton, FL  34211

AIA, CSI and GCBX members are working together to create interaction/stimulation stations on the grounds of Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue to benefit the resident dogs and cats.

The kick-off event was on April 11th  on site. Thank you for those of you who attended. We had a great turnout and gave team participants an opportunity to review the program, site, and timeline, as well as exemplary requirements for each station. If you were unable to make it, there is still time to sign up on the registration page.

PROJECT PROGRAM

  • Each team will include at least one architect and one contractor and at least one member from each participating organization.
  • Teams will design and build an environment that will serve the listed needs of an animal.
  • Each team will have a team captain who will be the point of contact for the respective team.
  • Each team will prepare a proposal depicting their design with sufficient drawings and text to explain their design which will be reviewed and approved by the management of Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue.  Upon approval teams will construct their design within the time period allocated.
  • Funding information and sponsorship opportunities will be provided.

Participants will choose any of the following stations:

  • DOG STATIONS:  These stations will be designed for dogs over 25 lbs to help them develop emotionally and physically, and will be located within the site boundaries assigned for that station (see site plan).
  • CAT STATIONS:  The cat station will be designed within fenced off areas accessible from the cat cottage(s), and may be as small or large as needed.  There will be as many cat stations as teams formed.

The stations are to fulfill the following criteria:

Dog Station #1: Fear - Currently 13 Members
Due to the environment from which they come, many dogs at the shelter have developed fears towards certain objects/situations like doorways or stairs.  The aim of this station is to help the dog overcome these fears.

Some elements of a fear conquering station may include:

Dog Station #2: Confidence - Currently 11 Members
Dogs at shelters often have a low self-esteem due to the abuse and conditions they have experienced.  The aim of this station is to design situations that will help the dog build confidence and develop trust in humans.

Some elements of a confidence building station may include:

Dog Station #3: Fun - Currently 7 Members
Dogs, like most animals, need mental and physical stimulation for their emotional well-being.  The aim of this station is to design an interaction which is fun for both the walker/prospective owner and the dog.

Some elements of a fun station may include:

Cat Station(s): Stimulation - Currently 10 Members
A shelter setting can be particularly stressful for cats; and providing a stimulating environment will give the cats opportunities for isometric exercise and will reduce anxiety.

Some elements of a cat stimulation station may include:

Fundraising Team - Currently 5 Members

In addition to putting together fundraising/sponsorship packages, the Fundraising Team will work together in pulling together Gulf Coast resources (monetary and in-kind donations) to distribute to the teams for construction of their respective structures that will benefit Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, a 501(c)3 organization.

Donations:

If you are unable to give your time to any of the teams above, but would still like to help the cause, feel free to donate to Nate's Honor Animal Rescue directly on their website. Please select "Architecture For Animals" in the donation category.
